Pizzeria Diggio
I can’t promise this will be the last post on my trip to the boot. But, I couldn’t resist talking a bit about what I believe is the best pizza in the world. This little crappy corner shop in my buddy’s neighborhood serves up the best thin-crust I have ever had…and I’ve had a lot. The best slice, by far, is just plain sauce (no cheese) with small bits of chopped anchovy and a tiny amount of oregano.
There are others too, but that was my favorite, hands down. The crust is hard to describe, its like a very thin white bread, but the underside is very crisp and has a sheen to it (all the olive oil I guess) and has an almost cracker-like crunch to it.
We would eat at this place at least once a day, if not two or three times. The procedure was to get 10 slices and go back to the apt. and watch bad Italian cable TV.
