I’m going to see these guys in Newport on Sunday. One of my favorites from back in the day…
So last night, I was running late. I got home from work, changed into my kit, threw on my new timetrial helmet, got on my bike, and bolted to the meet-up place for the Tuesday nite Seekonk timetrial. I got there about 7 minutes late, and there was nobody there. Guess they already left. OK, I figured I would be able to catch them, because the usually ride out there pretty easy. So, I rode the 8 miles out to the start area pretty hard…no racers to be seen along the way. I got to the starting point of the TT, and low and behold, I’m the only asshole who bothered to show up.
So anyway, I just went out and did it solo (which I guess is the whole point anyway) and timed myself. At the end, I was about 20 seconds off my best time from last year, which I guess is OK, considering the wind was blowing the wrong way, and it’s still pretty early.
Riding with a TT helmet is kinda wierd though. It makes this annoying droning sound right next to your ears. If you turn your head a little bit when your’re at speed, it whistles. It’s pretty cool that it turns your head into something like a bullet.
If all goes to plan, next week I’ll be riding a full TT rig - rear disc wheel, Spinergy Rev-X front, and aero bars/seatpost.
So I finally won a bike race yesterday. It was also my very first mountain bike race, and I raced in the Men’s 30-39 beginner class.
I ended up winning by like 7 minutes, so I guess I need up to the Sport class soon. I don’t really like getting called a sandbagger.
I really did try to like it. But now I hate it. Its white-boy college rock 311 crap. Not reggae by any stretch. So there.
In other news, I’m not looking forward to doing a hard hill workout tonight, but I know I need it. I think I’m taking the next 2 days real easy like. This weekend is going to be another rough one.
Uggh. I tried doing intervals this morning, but I can’t shake this crap-tacular feeling I’ve had since the double header Saturday. I couldn’t for the life of me get my heart rate over 160, so I suspect I havent fully recovered. It might also have to do with the slight hangover I had this morning. My freinds from Italy (Ari and his fiancee Breffni) rolled in last night to stay for the week at our palace in the Bucket, so naturally I drank too much vino after dinner, and ate some food items I probably shouldn’t have. These include a bag of Chee-tos, and some nice smuggled-in Parmesan cheese.
Tomorrow night it will be another hill slug-fest between Chuck and I. Hope I’ll be recovered by the weekend for the first major road race on Saturday (Turtle Pond), and then the Root 66 MTB race in CT on Sunday.
