Jim Dandy

Did I ever tell you about how much I hate dandelions?

With the arrival of summerlike temps, I’ve become ever more obsessed with maintaining my yard and garden. I have developed quite a vendetta against these demon weeds from hell. Well, after some months of pulling and spraying, I think I finally won the battle. No more dandelions in MY yard.

They send a shiver up my spine every time I see them. Today it got to me so bad that I actually snuck into somebody’s yard just so I could pull a few out.

Pulling these mutants out of the ground gives me the same level satisfaction as laying a monster cable.

What the hell is going on?

I certainly don’t know…

I can see the light

This miserable week is almost over. I haven’t ridden a gd bike all week, except for Wednesday when I stupidly tried to go mountain biking with Matt. Of course, I was riding way over my head, and  I aggrivated one of my crash injuries, and ended up with some form of hamstring pull and had to limp home. Good news is I can walk today without grimacing, and I’ve been stretching/pounding the Ibuprofren (or as Matt calls it, vitamin ‘I’). Seems to be doing the trick.

I’m working a half day today, then going to pick up my ressurected Salsa Campeon from the Hub. I’ll attempt to ride it today easy, and evaluate whether or not to go on the big Foxboro MTB ride tomorrow morning.

Myspace and a crash update

I finally broke down and got a myspace.com account. My URL is http://www.myspace.com/stevenmorse1

Now all I need are some friends…

My road bike should be fixed tomorrow in time for some nice long miles this weekend. As for my injuries, today everything is feeling much better, and so I might hit the trails tonight on the Dos Niner with Matt and Chuck up at the Lincoln Woods proving grounds.

What not to do

Could not sleep this morning, I woke up at about 4:45, got all kitted up, and waited for dawn to crack. At 5:30 I headed out to the Seekonk flats for the traditional Friday pre-race tune-up ride. It was smooth sailing, nice and mild out - high 50’s. Warm and fuzzy feeling in the heart - and the legs felt great.

Fifteen miles out into that fine Massachussets suburb, the skies opened up as a T-storm rolled in and the temp dropped. Good thing all I had on was a cheap windbreaker, no base layer. no arm/leg warmers. This made me extremely happy. And some people say I’m not a beginner…

So, my easy ride turned into one of pure survival  - doing intervals all the way home just to keep the core temp up. When I hit the Red Bridge crosswinds, I started getting hypothermic - numb hands and feet, as lightning bolts hit the river in my general vicinity. I was thinking if I got hit by one that it would warm me up some.

Sporty Spice

Har Har

Ha! Here’s a good pic of Chuck and I hammering the start in our first MTB last month. For some reason the Creature From the Black Lagoon is in front of us, but I think we passed him about 2 seconds after this picture was taken.

Other fun stuff that’s been happening:

On the way back from the Belltown race on Sunday (where Chuck and I finished 1-2), the exhaust system fell off Big Red on Route 6 in CT. A minute later, on the roadside, I’m my back, in a nice sandy puddle, in the pouring rain, trying to wrangle the dragging parts off the underbelly.  Rest of the ride home, Big Red sounded like a Corvette and had no power. Uggh.

Its been raining for like 6 days straight now, and it looks like I have to ride the god damn trainer later on. Supposed to clear up by tomorrow, or so they say. This weekend is the Lake Sunapee/N. Stonington road double header…both races I should be able to do well in. We’ll see…
