Fun times at the sandbag pit

Sunday’s MTB race was very hard, but fun. The course was pretty much nothing but super-rocky trails and then a nice jaunt through a big sand quarry called Adler’s pit (up in my hometown of Glocester, RI). Boy, did I ever get my technical practice in. After some mechanical mishaps on the first lap, Chuck and I finally stopped crashing on top of each other and we rolled in together to each win our respective age groups in Novice, albeit both a little bloody and bashed up. We were awarded some nice particle board plaques which my wife immediatley wanted thrown in the trash. Then we proceeded to get called sandbaggers by all our freinds and teammates. Good stuff!

On tap for this weekend is the Belltown Classic, another Root66 MTB race out in CT. I am having a nice bipolar debate with myself whether to move up tp the Sport class for this one or not. I know I should, but I kinda like this winning thing…

I hate it when…

I pump gas, and then later pick my nose. Gives me a nice nauseous, dizzy feeling for the rest of the afternoon. I should consider washing my hands after a trip to the service station. Or maybe I could consider not picking my nose…nah.

I took out the Time Trial bike for the first time in anger yesterday evening. Timed myself on the Seekonk course, and took off 16 seconds from my time last week on the Campeon. I think I was holding back a little too because riding in the aero bars is all squirrley, and I’m not exactly used to that yet. So, I should be on track for some good times this summer once I get the setup a little more dialed in. I will say one thing, going hard on a TT bike isnt the most comfortable or pleasant experience, but it is very fast, and I guess that’s the point. My back hurts today.

Speaking of hurt…this guy that we race with, Chris Burke, got crushed by a RIPTA bus while riding his bike in Providence yesterday. I guess he’s pretty messed up, and in the hospital with a punctured lung, shattered collarbone, and probably some other broken bones too. I guess he’s really lucky in the grand scheme though, it could easily have been a LOT worse. I’ll probably go pay him a visit this weekend, because being in the hospital plain ‘ol fucking sucks.

Rainy days

Whats more depressing than doing 5-minute basement intervals on the trainer, while watching the Deer Hunter?

Not much…
