Parents on Mars?

My crazy parents. Two weeks ago my dad retired, mom was already retired. They proceeded to load up their van and drive across the country. I haven’t heard from them for a while, so I wasn’t sure everything was OK or where they might be.

This morning I get a cryptic email from my dad that has the subject “This morning at sunrise” with this photo attached, and no other text.

Nuts….it looks like somewhere on another planet, not anywhere in the USA. I wonder where it is? Ideas?

Pizzeria Diggio

I can’t promise this will be the last post on my trip to the boot. But, I couldn’t resist talking a bit about what I believe is the best pizza in the world. This little crappy corner shop in my buddy’s neighborhood serves up the best thin-crust I have ever had…and I’ve had a lot. The best slice, by far, is just plain sauce (no cheese) with small bits of chopped anchovy and a tiny amount of oregano.

There are others too, but that was my favorite, hands down. The crust is hard to describe, its like a very thin white bread, but the underside is very crisp and has a sheen to it (all the olive oil I guess) and has an almost cracker-like crunch to it.

We would eat at this place at least once a day, if not two or three times. The procedure was to get 10 slices and go back to the apt. and watch bad Italian cable TV.

These pics don’t really do the stuff justice:

What I’ve been driving this week

Honda “Lead” scooter:
100cc 4 stroke. Better than I thought it would be. This poor thing carted our fat asses all around the capitol city every day.

Alfa Romeo 166:
No joke, its a government issue car. Fast - yes. Pig on gas - yes. Used exclusively for long road trips, which it turned out can really be a demon hell ride. Also used to bring friends to the airport who are about to miss their planes.

Que che bella

Fuckin awesome time so far over here. I have some pics to post, am trying to figure out a way to get them off my camera. Stay tuned…

I think I might be over doing it with the food, I think my race season might be in geopardy, at least for a while. Will take a while to lose the ponch.  More later, I promise….
